As Density Press was getting kicked off just a few short months ago, we put out an open call to photographers across the Gulf South and asked this community to show us how they’re creating their summer memories.
The response we received has validated the reason we started this project in the first place. Not only did we receive incredibly strong submissions, but we were also encouraged by the enthusiasm around the magazine in general as we’re preparing to print our first issue in advance of PhotoNOLA later this year.
Making images is inherently a solitary and lonely pursuit - spending days and weeks exploring new locations or hunting for the decisive moment, camping behind the lens to wait for the perfect light, and experimenting for hours in the darkroom.
Our goal with Density is to create more programming to celebrate the final results in print, on a wall, and in person. In that spirit, please follow along with the artists below and subscribe to our posts to keep up with our latest announcements, events, and artist features.

The purpose of our community is to create opportunities for lens-based artists throughout the Gulf South by amplifying their work and sharing their stories.
We intend to support this mission through regular programming including a quarterly publication, regular community events and exhibitions, in-depth explorations into purpose and process, along with photo challenges and calls for artists.
